We went to visit your Grandpa today. He was incredibly happy to meet you.

His wife, Andrea, was there too and the two of you hit it off. You were calm in her arms. And you were relaxed around Grandpa as well.

Your First Diarrhea

You’re currently sleeping on your playmat. Your mum is in Zurich for her chemotherapy and I just finished cleaning the most recent mess we encountered. While not a massive highlight in your story, you currently have your first diarrhoea - and let me tell you, it’s absolutely something to write home about. It smells horrendous and whenever your system decides to evacuate, everything is covered. So, cleaning also includes a lot of laundry so that we’re able to dress you appropriately for the following round. On the positive side, you are quite enjoying showers in the bathtub. So there’s that.

Mum got some good news regarding the effectiveness of her treatment earlier today. I’m very happy right now.

Slightly Weird, Very Loving

Both mum and I regularly imitate what we like to believe you would say if you already talked…

On Sunday (21.12.25), while feeding you a delicious mash mum lovingly made, you made it clear that the level of service was once again below expectations. Expressions of great frustration were made and your drinking bottle was thrown.

You also explained that you ended up in your „current position“ after responding to a „job ad“ that spoke of a „slightly weird but very loving couple.“

Clearly, you had fallen victim to a scam. Instead, you felt, a more apt description for mum and me would have been „very weird, slightly loving.“

Mum and I had to laugh so hard that you too had to join in and your suffering instantly evaporated.

Your Mum is Pregnant!

I'm writing this when you're already with us. You are currently lying on our couch together with your mother, both of you sleeping soundly. And, in your mother's case, with sound as she is snoring.

When she showed me the positive pregnancy test I couldn't believe my eyes. We were hoping for this moment for so long but I barely dared to believe it when I saw it. We had been trying for some time already though without luck and even some misfortune: your mother had a miscariage a few years back, shortly before her cancer diagnosis in 2022. Following said diagnosis, our hopes of becoming parents were greatly diminished. Alas, very much in the style of both your parents, you procrastinated until the last moment and showed up just before we gave up. And boy, oh boy, were we overjoyed!

Honestly, I barely dared for my euphoria to take hold just because I was so afraid of being disappointed. But with every day and every visit at the gynecologist we grew more convinced that you would actually join us. With these early visits to the gynecologist, we would get to see you via ultrasound. One of the first times, you looked like a Mandelbär (with which you should be familiar when reading this) and that's how you got that nickname. We would also always get a few pictures sent and I printed one of those picture series and still carry it with me. To say it's in a bad shape would be putting it nicely but it always felt like a connection to you.
